The Installing at the Confederation Center Art Gallery in Charlottetown

Shipping day! I'm always relieved when the work gets there safely. 

Lots of work to do to get the paintings sized for the new walls.

The room was huge, really big walls. 

The gallery very generously brought my assistant Sarah down to resize all the paintings in the show. Couldn't have done it without her. She knows the work and how it goes together so well, she made it as easy as it could be. 

We received great support from everyone at the gallery, especially from Ben Dickerson, the preparator for the gallery. Careful, smart and steady; Ben was great to work with, a real pleasure. 

That's Ben and I on the siccsor lift. Because the gallery has a mezzanine opening the lift was actually down on the floor below. It was 15 feet up to the bottom of the wall. When we working at the top of the wall we were 35 feet above the floor. On the first trip up it seemed so high and the thing was swaying and making creaking noises which was a little unnerving but we soon got used to it.

Sarah quickly got used to the lift and did the final checkover on her own. 

The opening went very well. We had a huge crowd (not many in this shot but this was at the start). 

We were lucky to have some extra help. Sophie Routhier LeBlanc and Yulia Dea Nesty are volunteers with the gallery. They were a godsend, lending a hand when we needed it most. Many thanks to them.

Review in Canadian Art magazine

I was fortunate to receive a review in the Fall 2012 issue of Canadian Art magazine.
I was quite pleased with Ashley Johnson's take on the work, it's very accurate as to how I see things.
"Walker delves into visual incident like a surrealist Automatiste, but emerges as a unique visionary. He is at once meticulous and deferential, like a mariner navigating uncertainty to allow free passage of the universal subconscious."

In the east gallery we wrapped the whale around a corner.

The wave and moon were positioned opposite the whale. 

The wave fit nicely on the wall.

There were some nice views through the hallway.

The bridge was wrapped around 3 walls.

Installing at the Barnicke

Some photos from today's install at the Barnicke.

We've wrapped the walls in blue tiles.

The works are floor to ceiling and corner to corner.

Almost all of the paintings from the Other Worlds show are up at the Barnicke.

Christopher Regimbal is the Exhibition Project Coordinator at the Barnicke. Fabulous support, all that was needed was there. Many thanks.
